Finnish Society of Forest Science (SMS, Suomen Metsätieteellinen Seura) awards grants to promote forest science in Finland. Grants of the SMS are awarded for research, travel, other international activities, language studies, and other activities within the scope of the society. Grants are typically awarded for researchers in the early stages of their careers.

In addition, Foundation Metsämiesten Säätiö has assigned the distribution of its IUFRO grants to the SMS. IUFRO grants are awarded for participating in IUFRO activities and for organizing IUFRO activities in Finland.

Call for applications is usually open the beginning of the year. In 2012, call for applications will be closed on 20 February.
