For a general overview on granted sums, see grant decisions 2016.

Research grant is awarded as six-month personal scholarship for the researcher or for specified research costs. Personal research grants are tax-free up to the amount allowed by the tax authorities. The amount is revised annually and it was 20293.40 Euros per year in 2016 (1691.11 € per month). Researchers applying for a personal grant should note that an insurance for the statutory pension and occupational accident is mandatory if the work period is four months or longer and the total amount of the grant exceeds 1250.36 Euros. The recipient of a grant is responsible for applying for the insurance at Mela as well as for paying the cost of the insurance from the awarded grant (approximately 12% of the total sum of the personal grant). More information can be found on the website of MELA.

Travel grants are typically awarded for presenting research results in international scientific meetings.
