For a general overview on granted sums, see grants awarded in 2011.
Research grant is typically awarded as six-month personal scholarship for the researcher. Personal research grants are tax-free up to the amount allowed by the tax authorities. The amount is revised annually and it was 19 029.51 Euros per year in 2011 (1585.79 € per month). Researchers applying for a personal grant should note that an insurance for the statutory pension and occupational accident is mandatory if the work period is four months or longer and the total amount of the grant exceeds 1149,45 Euros. The recipient of a grant is responsible for applying for the insurance at Mela as well as for the cost of the insurance (approximately 12% of the total sum of the personal grant). More information can be found on the website of Mela.
Travel grants are typically awarded for presenting research results in international scientific meetings.
