7th International Conference on Functional – Structural Plant Models (FSPM2013)
9-14 June 2013 Hotel Riekonlinna, Saariselkä, Finland - www.metla.fi/fspm2013

The functional-structural plant models (FSPMs) address the complex interaction between plant architecture and biological and physical processes driving plant production and development. They  combine plant architecture, molecular genetics, plant physiology, and environmental influences with computer science and mathematics. They have been applied e.g. in agricultural sciences, horticulture, forest ecology, remote sensing and analysis of plant morphogenesis. The Finnish Society of Forest Science, Finnish Forest Research Institute, and the Department of Forest Sciences at the University of Helsinki organised together the seventh international conference on these models.

156 scientists from 21 countries gathered in Saariselkä, Finland, for discussing functional-structural plant models. The group photo was taken during the conference excursion in Tuulispää hill with Lake Inari in the background.

Conference dinner was served in the Sámi Culture Centre Sajos in Inari.

Slow growth of Northern plants impressed many scientists from more southern countries. Age of this Scots pine seedling is 16 years!
